The Helvti Diner concept is clearly inspired by the American model, but there’s one key difference – our quality standards are uncompromising. Every ingredient that finds its way into our meals is either prepared to our own recipe, refined, or carefully checked by our chefs. We know all our suppliers personally and regularly go on-site to inspect their production processes for ourselves.
Needless to say, there is a price for this approach. Because we only use and create high-quality products, the price structure cannot be compared with that of a snack restaurant. Not all hamburgers are created equal! Especially not when all of our meat comes from a small outfit – that means pure beef without binding agents, and the most careful preparation processes.
Yes, our products are fatty and sometimes high in calories. But they’re healthy! We believe it’s better – and healthier – to enjoy high-quality products and light exercise now and then than consume a monotonous, low-fibre diet devoid of pleasure.
When it comes to design we aimed for our own twist on the American model. The classic diner elements mix with contemporary design objects to create a comfortable, modern atmosphere which invites lingering. And there is great attention to detail in the design – classic booths with matching wooden frames, individually designed benches, a lighting composition with designer light fittings as well as a metal front studded with rivets that separates the kitchen from the restaurant.
Here we don’t just live the famous American concept of openness, we celebrate it! This is how we do things: a warm greeting, a personal introduction, a cheeky word or a brief flirtation are all part of the deal, and help set the atmosphere. All too often, Zurich’s restaurant landscape offers little more than Calvinist restraint and reserve. In Helvti Diner that attitude is most definitely passé.
We want to be like a second family to our employees and believe that our team-oriented approach inspires first-class performance, even under stress and pressure, and that this is something the guests will come to appreciate as well.
Day in, day out, we set ourselves the goal of being there for our employees, offering a family atmosphere despite stress and pressure. If you’re ready to bring us your personal best, we’re ready to offer you a safe, friendly and exciting home-from-home with great prospects.
We look forward to receiving your application with photo and references.

Volkshaus Basel is located on Rebgasse right in the heart of Kleinbasel and was exclusively designed by the renowned architects Herzog and de Meuron. It houses a bar, brasserie, beer garden and three generously sized, flexible halls (for concerts, banquets, and public and private events of all types).
The brasserie in the new Volkshaus Basel combines classic brasserie elements with special design accents and will delight anyone who enjoys the cosy, convivial atmosphere of a beer hall. The link between tradition and modernity also defines the menu by chef Benjamin Mohr, who, together with Françoise Wicki, bridges the gap between down to earth and out of this world. From a simple lunch menu to filet de boeuf, or our oyster weeks, the brasserie leaves no culinary desire unfulfilled.
The day begins early in the Herzog & de Meuron-designed bar, where fine meals and snacks are available all through the day. As evening falls a classic bar atmosphere takes over, with music and a wide range of cocktails prepared personally for you by our chef de bar. In short – a lively meeting place for any time of day, no matter what the occasion.
With three large halls as well as the outdoor beer garden area, the Volkshaus Basel banqueting service can accommodate the most varied customer requests, with a first-class range of gastronomical treats. From small events to gala dinners for up to 700 guests – anything is possible in Volkshaus Basel!
